Process :: Workjournal

Okay, as promised, here are some images to document the process I'm using on "Lake".

I made up a template for my thumbnail-scripts. Before this, I found that I lost a lot of momentum when I switched from thinking visually to thinking about dialogue. This allows me to switch back ansd forth more easily, and completely disposes of any need to verbalize almost any of the visual ideas. Next, I scanned those thumbnails directly into Corel Painter IX. Then I laid on the gutters, as well as temporary lettering and balloons. I like doing the lettering at this point so that I can be more aware of it as I finish the art. It lives in its own layer, so I can paint underneath it with no worries. Now, on some figures, it's helpful to go into a little more detail before I start painting. And then I get to "paint". Actually, I primarily use the charcoal tools because I have a better handle on them.
