"Lake" script complete :: Workjournal
As the production of Prelude to a Kiss winds down, I'm poised for my next project, which will be a sixteen page web comic with the working title of "Lake".
On Monday I completed the "script". I've developed a script format that was basically a combination of thumbnail sketches of each page drawn on the left- hand side of a sheet of paper, and the dialogue for that page on the right-hand side. I'll post an image of an actual page in the next couple of days. This turned out to be a real breakthrough for me. It allowed me to move forward pretty quickly because I was never tied to being in "dialogue mode" or "visual mode". I could always go back and fill in any words or pictures that I left out, and, of course, I didn't waste any time trying to describe the pictures in my head to myself. I preprinted the templates with page boxes that had the proper height:width ratio for the format I'd chosen.
The plan is to take those thumbnails, scan them in, and blow them up in Painter. Then I can work right on top of them as I work on the final artwork.
The final look of the artwork is still somewhat to be deteremined. It will definitely be full color and painterly to at least a certain extent. I'm still expermenting, and haven't had a definitive success yet.
