A Boing Boing Digest
Boing Boing is on the sidebar over there, but they are on a roll today. There's a link to Terry Zwigoff talking about pre-1933 music, before mass communication homogenized music and took it out of the hands (and voices) of everyday people. There was a mass UFO sighting by Mexican Air Force pilots this week. And, an economist shows how the recording industry twists the numbers to make it look like sales are down, when in fact profits are up. Soundscan says they are selling more, while the RIAA says they are shipping fewer. That sounds like a higher profit margin to me!

Thought screen hats
Thoughts screens have successfully stopped four kinds of aliens from abducting humans.
- The praying mantis-like aliens.
- Servants of the mantis-like aliens who are popularly referred to as grays.
- Snake-skinned aliens popularly referred to as reptilians.
- "Meek-Moks" which refers to the sound these aliens make while speaking.

These are the results of a dialect survey that was run by some Harvard profs and students. It's a great resource for for finding out where in the US people say 'pop' and where they say 'soda' and a few dozen other things.
