A Mistaken Rapture - My new favorite urban legend.
"She started screaming "He's back, He's back" and climbed right out of the sunroof and jumped off the roof of the car..."

The best night at Charlie's yet has been captured by both
Brad and
Joe. Drunken fools and plastic penguins abound.
When you whip [your breasts] out in Toronto, you're not just coping with the heat — you're enjoying a legally sanctioned activity that was hard-fought-for by a startlingly well-organized lobby. (warning: naughty bits) Thanks HBJKB!

The Infinite Matrix -- This online magazine appears to have gotten caught in the dot-com collapse before it even got launched. The first and probably only, issue is up now. I honestly haven't take a close look at it, but it bears investigation. (via

Rhino began their latest Elvis Costello re-release program this week with
My Aim is True,
Spike, and
All This Useless Beauty. These are the CD equivalent of the collector's edition DVD. Each comes with a supplemental disc packed with demo versions, b-sides and other related tracks. There are also extensive new liner notes penned by Costello, reflecting on the writing and recording processes for the album.
I've had the idea for a while that it would be cool to have an album released with both the fully-produced and stripped-down versions of the same songs. It turns out that I was right, it is pretty damn cool. Costello himself notes in the liner for Spike that some listeners might prefer the demo tracks.
Anyone else grab these?

McSweeney's Internet Tendency: Why I'm No Longer Invited to Write Dust-Jacket Blurbs by Eric McHenry: "A critical work so far ahead of its time as to render, paradoxically, even itself obsolete."
Hollywood Moves to Rent Movies Online -- I don't think it is going to be much longer before the entertainment indudustry finishes shooting itself in the foot with this 'pay-per-use' crap and we all end up supporting artists and musicians in our community, just like before there
was and "entertainment industry."

Official Intellivision Classic Videogame Website -- Sweet, sweet nostalgia. They don't make games like these anymore. My mother did long-term damage to her back playing
Space Armada. My relationship with my cousin was practically defined by
NHL Hockey. I don't want to think about how many hours I just played the damned thing by myself.
This website is run by members of the original programming team and is jam-packed with interesting trivia about nearly every game ever worked on for the INTV. It's great reading.
Plus, you can buy pretty much every game that was available on a couple of CDs and play on your Windows or Mac box. There are a few free downloads available, including Skiing, B-17 Bomber, Night Stalker, and Utopia. Personally, I can't wait to play Demon Attack again.

Sadly, the book didn't get back from the printers in time to make it to San Diego. Watch this space for update on when you can grab this superb anthology, featuring my short story, "Two Worlds." Meanwhile, keep drooling over the lovely David Choe cover. |
Barnes and Noble now offers free shipping on orders of two items or more. And if you use these links I get my kick-back. Thanks!

Well, part of the new design is up. I'll be adding the new front page later in the week. I apologize if this page looks ridculous in Netscape. I won't be able to do cross-platform testing until I get to work tomorrow. I hope you all like it.
I suppose what they really need to do is hook up with the Catholic Church to get them blessing Coca-Cola instead of water. Can you imagine the instant world-wide market penetration they'd have?
[S]ome restaurant chains are implementing programs to help train crews to sell alternative choices to tap water, like soft drinks and non-carbonated beverages, with the goal of increasing overall guest satisfaction.
I wonder if they have the staff explain about flouridation of the water and how that effects their precious bodily fluids. (plastic)
